Lotus Lantern Festival

Today, 25th of April, is openning day of Lotus Lantern Festival, so I decided to visit a bit.

Lotus Lantern Festival is a thousand-year old Korean folk festival. Colorful lotus lanterns will illuminate Buddhist temples in Seoul and the city’s downtown stream of Cheonggyecheon from  25 April to 11 May to celebrate the 2,578th birthday of Buddha, which falls on May 06.

Suggesting Route 
Line #3 Anguk Station Exit #6 → Jogyesa Temple → Cheonggyecheon Stream

<Jogyesa Temple>

Come out at Line#3 Anguk Station Exit #6 → Go straight about 100m til Hana Bank → Cross the street at a crosswalk → Turn left then, go straight another 100m → Find Jogyesa temple entrance on your right side

It is located in the heart of Seoul. As the center of Korean Buddhism, the area has been kept the style of Korean Traditional architecture.

In front of Main gate of Jogyesa Temple, some of Lantern Sculptures are exhibited.

 As soon as I entered inside of Temple, I felt peaceful and solemn atmosphere, even I was in center of downtown.

All lantern with  name tag is hung up by offering to a Temple. The Buddhists believe that it will be achieved their family peace and good health.

One thing that I feel something wanting, Informations such as operating hours are not mentioned in anywhere. While looking through it, I should came out!

If you wish to go Jogyesa temple, check the operating hour in advance.

<Cheonggyecheon Stream>

Come out the Jogyesa Temple entrance → Turn right and go straight about 500m → Find Gwanggyo bridge of Cheonggyecheon Stream

I went to Cheonggyecheon Stream, as our second destination, behind for Jogyesa Temple.

Exhibited Lantern is not only meaning of Buddhism but also Buddhist thought for country. According to Korean history, Buddhism is one of the anchor of Korean, whenever they overcome the national crisis. 



Lotus Lantern Festival will run til 11th of May.

It is worth visiting, because it is known for Lantern Festival.
